The Protagonist of Mandate of Heaven is an unnamed fictional character featured in the manga series of the same name.

Appearance

Not much is seen of the Protagonist except that he has black hair.

Plot

As the story of Mandate of Heaven progresses, more and more angels appear and they are divided into ranks. While they usually take on the appearance of humans to communicate with them, as they climb up the ranks, however, they gradually lose their human appearances. These higher ranked angels can no longer distinguish between humans and other creatures. The main protagonist is made to face such angels, giving the reader the feeling that they might not make it to the end of the story, a narrative which is intentional on the part of the author.

Despite the seemingly hopeless situation, the protagonist still views these Messengers of God merely as "monsters with a name as a shield." Although they know that they are no match for such a monster, the protagonist believes that they have no choice but to follow that same path and become a monster themselves. They make this declaration as their own "Mandate of Heaven."
