This is the seventh chapter of the tenth volume and the seventy-eighth chapter overall of the My Dress-Up Darling manga series written and illustrated by Shinichi Fukuda.
Summary[]
Akira arrives at Wakana's house so they can work on the Coffin props together. Before they start working on the props, they talk about the Gojo family business of making hina dolls. Wakana shares how they paint the dolls' faces using special brushes. Akira complements him for doing something that takes years of practice and effort.
They finally start on the props. Akira went to buy the supplies they were going to need in making eyeballs, cake, and slices of meat for the dining scene. They start working on the eyeballs made from ping-pong balls and contact lenses. They draw the details on the eyes such as the blood vessels and apply a manicure top coat to seal the details. Next, they work on the cake made from a circular box, paper clay and glue. They spread the paper clay with a flat spatula and apply glue on the base.
Akira further shares some tips and techniques in making other types of props. Hearing all this, Wakana tells Akira that he, too, would like to make more props himself, which Akira encourages. Wakana wonders how long she has been making props. She tells him that she only started cosplaying when she got into community college and met Miyako and Suzuka.
She starts to share the details of how she met the two. When she was younger Akira loved manga and anime, however her mother thought that anime and manga were despicable. Akira's mother threw out all of her manga and her father stayed silent and refused to meddle. This caused Akira to withdraw herself from her family and her peers. She refused to show anybody her true self. This made her hate her everyday life and so, she decided to enroll at a community college far from home.
In college, she was initially closed off. One day, she was buying a Blaze! toy when Miyako and Suzuka saw her. Akira initially planned on denying her love for anime, but before she could do so, the two immediately gushed about their love for Blaze!
After that, the three started hanging out. Akira thinks that Miyako and Suzuka saved her by letting her be herself―something she was unable to do back home. Because of this, Akira has decided to do anything they ask of her and she makes sure to make it happen. Hearing Akira's story, Wakana tells her that he can relate. He, himself, has decided to do everything Marin asks of him so he can make her dreams come true.
Just then, Miori walks into Wakana's room so she could give them some refreshments she bought. She spots the fake eyeballs and lets out a scream. Wakana assures her that it was just a ping-pong ball.
Somewhere else in the city, Miyako, Suzuka, and Sajuna are at a studio. Sajuna comments that she doubts the studio is appropriate for their Coffin meetup and that it's quite different from how she imagined it. Miyako surprises her, saying that they were actually going to do a Black Lobelia cosplay right at that moment.
