This is the fourth chapter of the sixth volume and the forty-third chapter overall of the My Dress-Up Darling manga series written and illustrated by Shinichi Fukuda.
Summary[]
Amane recounts how he got into crossplaying. In a flashback back to his second year in high school, Amane's sister was watching a drag battle on television and asked if he wanted to try it out. She offered to do his makeup and put a wig on him, too. His sister was so happy with the result, and he was shocked by what he saw in the mirror. He could not recognize the person staring back at him and the feeling he got after seeing himself was something he could not shake. He asked his sister to teach him how to do makeup and she gave him clothes that she no longer wore.
Once he learned how to do his own makeup, he started cosplaying. He shares that he has an open-minded family, with his mother constantly giving him advise and praising his improvements. He had hated himself and was always insecure that he was not conventionally masculine and was often teased a lot. However, when he cosplayed, he was able to like who himself and slowly began to develop his confidence.
When he was in university, he was in a relationship. However, when his girlfriend found out about his hobby and found his costumes, she felt disgusted and demanded that he get rid of them. Due to the incident, he immediately broke up with his girlfriend without a second thought. Amane laughs at the memory, but Marin, who is listening, is in tears. She knows how much the costumes meant to Amane and is deeply offended in his behalf that the woman belittled something that mattered to him. Amane comforts her and assures her that he will never give up something that he loves.
Amane shares that when Wakana asked if he was in drag, he was scared that Wakana was going to judge him. Wakana exclaims that he would never do such a thing and Amane apologizes for doubting him. He is happy that the people in the event didn't turn their noses at him despite the fact that he was crossplaying. He realizes that just because one person said something negative, it doesn't mean that everyone else will say the same and that he shouldn't assume the worst of people.
The event is finally concluded and Marin and Amane are now out of their costumes. They are in the train station and are promising to keep in touch. As Amane bids them farewell, Marin and Wakana are dazed at seeing such a pretty young man. Meanwhile, Amane recalls how Wakana helped Marin with her makeup and hopes that they keep on doing cosplay together.
