Akira Ogata (緒方 (おがた) 旭 (あきら) , Ogata Akira^?) is a female cosplay prop designer and friend of the photographer, Suzuka.

Appearance

Akira is a young woman of average height. She has upper back length, jet black hair with bangs parted off to the right, moderately thick yet straight eyebrows that give her an impassive expression, and sharp grey colored eyes.

For outfits, Akira prefers to wear casual clothing. At the point of meeting Wakana for the first time, she is seen wearing a long-sleeved V-neck with jeans and a bomber jacket with a dragon design.

Personality

Akira is introduced as a reserved, mature, and aloof individual. In a manner of speaking, the way she talks with others is described as concise. The reason to said behavior is stemmed from the inability to be herself, due to her parents' showing absolute disapproval to her interests in manga and/or anime followed by being bullied from her own peers.

As a result of this, she would typically keep to herself, giving those the impression that she's a distant person. However, after meeting Suzuka and Miyako during an unlikely encounter, she's able to become more of herself, allowing her to enjoy the two things that make her most happy.

History

When she was young, she was a huge fan of manga, but her mother always saw it as despicable, and when she joined high school, her mother decided to throw all her manga away. Akira tried to talk with her, but she never heard, and continued to throw all her manga away, even when Akira tried to hide it. One day she decided to lie to her mother, saying that she doesn't like it anymore, and stopped talking about her likes. Her mother smiled and said that was a relief. She tried to talk about her likes with the classmates at school, but they always ignored and bullied her.

She decided to lie about her love of manga and passed all through high school doing it. After that, she joined a college far away; while she was trying to buy a Black Lobelia toy on a machine, Suzuka and Miyako saw her doing it. She thought they were going to bully on her, but surprisingly, they started to ask her if she also likes cosplay and manga and shared their cosplay plans. So, Akira started going with them, and later they became closer friends.

Relationships

Wakana Gojo

Through the prompting of Suzuka, Wakana asked Akira if he could help her with the Coffin props. She goes to Wakana's house to prepare some of the props with him. When Wakana sees her skills and joy in making the props, he is impressed and at the same time also makes him wonder how she got into the craft. Akira decided to reveal her story to him. Upon hearing about her past and how she treasured Suzuka and Miyako, Gojo said that he understood how she felt, because he felt the same way with Marin.

Marin Kitagawa

When they first met, Akira did not seem to like Marin. She was always trying to avoid her. Later in the story, it was revealed that Akira has been a huge fan of Marin ever since she saw her Black Lobelia cosplay. Akira avoided getting close to her because she got nervous being around her. She considers Marin as her "Princess" and says she bought every issue of the magazines in which Marin appeared.

Suzuka & Miyako

Akira met Suzuka and Miyako in college. One day, they saw Akira buying a Flower Princess Blaze movie capsule toy. Akira was initially worried that they would mock her for liking manga and anime, but they immediately bonded over their love for Blaze! After that incident, the three of them started hanging out together. Akira believes that Suzuka and Miyako saved her by accepting her for who she is and letting her be herself. Because of this, she will do anything that they ask her to do and will make sure to make it happen. Akira started cosplaying because of Suzuka and Miyako. The first time, she just joined to fill in the head count because they were short on people for a meetup.

Mr. & Mrs. Ogata (Parents)

It does not seem like Akira has a good relationship with her parents. Akira had always loved manga and anime. When she was in middle school, her mother threw out all her manga because she thought that manga and anime were despicable. Akira begged her mother not to throw her books away, but she did not listen. This led Akira to pretend to no longer like manga anymore and close herself off from her family. Her father did not involve himself in the whole thing and stayed silent to what his wife did. This treatment also led to Akira being unable to be herself in front of her classmates and peers. Because of this, she thought that her everyday life sucked and decided to enroll into a community college away from home.

Etymology

• The name Akira means "morning sun" (旭) (akira / asahi).
• The surname Ogata means "thread" (緒) (o) and "person, way, method" (方) (kata / gata).
